The loving kindness practice was an enlightening experience. It was my first foray into meditation. I found it hard to do at first because I could not shut down the chatter in my mind. The help that was given for other thoughts during the practice wasn’t very helpful. How do you acknowledge a thought then move on? It is easier said than done. I have been practicing though and have found that it does get easier.
When I find my mind wandering to other thoughts and ideas I visualize a trail and I walk on it and bring myself right back where I am supposed to be and continue on with my meditation. I call it taking the scenic route. I have always enjoyed taking the longer path to my destination. After adding this process to my meditation I find it far more beneficial and less stressful.
The other meditation that I found helpful was Meeting Asciepius. I pictured my older brother Bruce for my wise teacher. I have always found him to be one of the most amazing and put together people that I have ever met. His mind is truly a calm and peaceful place, and I have envied that calmness in the past. I have always wanted to learn how he does it, and by picturing him as my teacher I was able to absorb what he was teaching me because I wanted to learn it. It was an amazing thing and after I got done I called Bruce and I told him what I was doing. He was fascinated by the process and asked what book we were studying and he is getting a copy. We are going to work on it together I am so excited.
